Context
As we proceed further with implementing IT resources and functionalities, you get more knowledge on how the system landscape architecture is working. With that knowledge, it is also known how to proceed further with the replacement and expanding the IT architecture.
For example: someone designed a house for you and your job is to build it. You have all the tools and knowledge you need to work with them. While you’re building it, you’re beginning to realize and understand how everything makes sense.
For that reason, I decided to dive into the architecture certifications of TOGAF.
What is TOGAF Enterprise Architecture?
TOGAF is an architecture framework and methodology to improve business efficiency (changes in the organization/projects).
To quote from their website:
The TOGAF® Standard, a standard of The Open Group, is a proven Enterprise Architecture methodology and framework used by the world’s leading organizations to improve business efficiency.
It is the most prominent and reliable Enterprise Architecture standard, ensuring consistent standards, methods, and communication among Enterprise Architecture professionals. Those professionals who are fluent in the TOGAF approach enjoy greater industry credibility, job effectiveness, and career opportunities. This approach helps practitioners avoid being locked into proprietary methods, utilize resources more efficiently and effectively, and realize a greater return on investment.

I did a classical training at Vijfhart IT Opleidingen where I used the resources below:
- Courseware Based on the TOGAF EA – Foundation – ISBN 9789401808897
- Powerpoint presentation about TOGAF EA – Foundation (internal)
- TOGAF Book of Knowledge EA Part 1 – ISBN 1-947754-90-4
Part 2

The Courseware books are the most important resources to pass the exam.
About the Exam
Part 1 consists of 40 MPC questions in which talks about the:
- ADM Model
- Definitions that are being used inside and outside the ADM model
- Pictures based on the book where the names are censored and your task is to select which word belongs to which part of the picture
Part 2 consists of 8 MPC questions in which in talks about an enterprise scenario and based on the question, you need to give the best answer in order to score the most points.
- Best answer = 5 points
- Good answer = 3 points
- Bad answer = 1 point
- Awful answer = 0 points
It is very important to know that you need to understand Part 1 Foundation first before attempting Part 2
To pass these exams, you must have an end score at least 60%.
The re-take policy for both exams are 1 month so be prepared to pass it the first time!
Other than that, I wish you good luck on learning for the exam and to be TOGAF certified. 😀
